The 14th Dalai Lama Fourth Annual Interfaith and Secular Ethics Conference Facing Adversity: Stories from our lives.

In our diverse and often conflicted world, adversity can arise from many sources: not getting what we want or desperately need, such as food or shelter, losing something we treasure, such as a home or a loved one, and meeting with circumstances we don't want or deserve, including illness or chronic pain, and continuous unjust treatment from others. Each of us responds to adversity in different ways. And over time we might respond differently to the same situation, whether with anger, anxiety, frustration, and despair, or moving to resilience, resolve, compassion, acts of loving-kindness, and newfound joy. These responses are all real, valid, and part of the process of being in this world. Come to this conference and listen to the stories told by others. Share your own stories. Deepen your understanding of what it is to be human in this world of ours.
