Description:

Great Compassion is the root of the path to enlightenment.  Great Compassion leads to the altruistic intention of bodhicitta-the intention to attain enlightenment and relieve the suffering of all sentient beings.  The continued practice and development of great compassion, bodhicitta and wisdom are the key elements of the Buddhist path that lead to full awakening.  Chandrakirti’s Entry to the Middle Way is considered one of the most important texts in Tibetan Buddhism because it clarifies and integrates these aspects of the path.  Chandrakirti opens this text with In Praise to Great Compassion and stresses how the cultivation of Great Compassion is important at the beginning, the middle and the end of the path.  Then it is through the practice of the ten perfections (far-reaching virtues) that a Bodhisattva progresses to Buddhahood.   The ten perfections include practices such as generosity, ethical discipline, patience and joyful effort.  During this weekend intensive, Geshe-la will provide discussion on the cultivation of Great Compassion and its connection with bodhicitta and wisdom.   This teaching is excellent for both newcomers and more experienced students.  For newcomers, it will provide the foundation for a basic understanding of key points of study and practice within Tibetan Buddhism.  And for more experienced students, the teachings will serve to refine one’s understanding of Great Compassion and its relationship to wisdom understanding emptiness.
