Description:

As Buddhists, we take refuge in the Buddhas.  We venerate the Buddhas, prostrate to them, make offerings and aspire to be like them, even to become Buddhas ourselves.  But who are the Buddhas actually?  What does it mean to be a Buddha? To become a Buddha?

While many of us can say that Buddhas have perfect wisdom and compassion, truly comprehending their profound and vast qualities often eludes us.  To genuinely aspire to be a Buddha, we need to know better who they are and what it is we are aiming for in our practice.  What does this goal of Buddhahood really look like?  What are the qualities we are trying to cultivate? What does it mean to become more like them?

During this weekend intensive, Geshe-la will explain in depth who the Buddhas are and their qualities, both those that are more easily perceived as well as those that are more subtle and sublime.  From this understanding, we can then develop the practice of recollecting these qualities in our practice and daily lives, so that we slowly, slowly become more like them and eventually attain Buddhahood. As always, Geshe-la will provide ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

This is an excellent teaching for students at all levels.  For new students, this is an opportunity to learn more in-depth about the Buddhas, so that recollecting their qualities becomes a regular part of a daily practice.  For more experienced students, it is an exceptional opportunity to deepen and refine one’s understanding  of the profound and vast qualities that come with attaining Buddhahood.
