THE GRAND OPENING CEREMONIES PROGRAM OF HIS HOLINESS THE GREAT 14TH DALAI LAMA LIBRARY AND LEARNING CENTER EVENTS  FROM SEPTEMBER 8 to 10, 2023 AS UNDER:       

 Friday September 8th:   Morning Program:

  10am - Unveiling of the Statute of His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama by four Guest -will offer the Lamps followed by short Consecration Ritul by Venerable monks at the Pavilion.

 10:15am – Consecration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama Library and Learning center at the main Gate with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony by four Guest all together.

  10:25am – Infront of the Alter at the Great Hall of His Holiness the Dalai lama library and Learning Center offering of Butter Lamps by the Four Guest and all other audience will be seated on the Chairs.

10:35 am – Chant Master will lead prayers on homage to the Three Jewels and prayers of the Seventeen Great Masters – followed by Traditional Sweet Rice and Tea to  the Guest and audience.

 11:00am – Speech by Ven, Tenzin Choesang -President & In charge of His Holiness the Dalai Lama Library and Learning Center on the aims and objectives of this great Project.

11:15am – Speech by Namgyal Monastery Abbot Thumtok Rinpcohe on the Opening Ceremony of His Holiness the Dalai lama Library and Learning Cente

11:30am – Speech by His Eminence 13th Kundiling Tatsak Tenzin Choe Ki Gyaltsen Rinpoche on the Opening Ceremony of His Holiness the Dalai lama Library and Learning Center

11:45am – Speech by our main donor Diane Brandenburg on the opening Ceremony of His Holiness the Dalai lama Library and Learning Center.

12:00am – Speech by Representative –Dr, Namgyal Choedup on the Opening Ceremonyof His Holiness the Dalai Lama Library and Learning Center.

12:10am – Private Secretary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama - Mr, Lobsang Jinpa will read out the Special message from His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the Occasion of His Holiness the Dalai lama Library and Learning Center Opening Ceremony.

 12.15pm – Presentation to the Donors

12:50pm – Vote of Thanks by Board Member – Priscilla Sawa

12:55pm – Chant Master will lead the prayer for the Closing Ceremony of the Program.

 01:00pm – Lunch will be served to the Guest and to the Public.

 Afternoon Program:

03.00:pm - Ithaca Tibetan Childrens will read out both in Tibetan language and English Language on the Four Principal Commitment of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai lama.

 03.30:pm – At the Pavilion – of His Holiness the Dalai lama Library and learning Center Tibetan Association of Ithaca will perform the traditional Tibetan Cultural Dance.

 HHDL LLC Interfaith and Secular Ethics Conference

Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies will be hosting its Inaugural Interfaith and Secular Ethics Library at His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama Library and Learning Center on September 9-10.

There will be over 20 local religious leaders from eight different religions who will discuss the values and practices of their tradition related to compassion, loving kindness and forgiveness.  The conference will include presentations, interfaith dialogues and smaller breakout sessions.  Day One will focus largely focus on values and the Day Two on practice, although there will likely be some overlap between the two on both days.

The event is free and open to the public.  We ask that persons planning to attend please register at the website below so we know approximately how many people will be coming:

General Structure for both days:

The first morning session each day will be talk by Namgyal Monastery Leadership aimed at introducing participants and attendees to Tibetan Buddhist values and practices, and vision for His Holiness the 14th Dalai for the Library and Learning Center both in the local and global communities.

 The second morning session there will be presentations by local religious leaders to introduce attendees to the values and practices of various religions.

The first afternoon session will include a moderated interfaith dialogue.

The second afternoon session will provide a menu of breakout groups for attendees to choose from or to be used for individual time for reflection and contemplation.

September 9, 2023 Day One:  Values

9-9:15  Introductions, opening remarks Venerable Tenzin Choesang

9:15-9:30   His Eminence 13th Kundeling Tasak Rinpoche: The Importance of Interfaith and Secular Ethics Dialogues in the 21st Century and the vision of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama (Translated into English)

9:30-11:15 Overview of core beliefs and views of different religions

Panel of 5-6 speakers representing different religions (Translated into Tibetan)

Each representative talks about:  How their religion expresses and applies loving kindness, compassion, and forgiveness in confronting the challenges in daily life? What principles or doctrine guide and undergird them philosophically from the perspective of your tradition?  Participants are invited to share personals stories-experience, if comfortable.

11:15-11:30      BREAK

11:30-12:00     Answer Written Questions from the Audience

12:00-1:30        Lunch

During lunch break opportunities for tours of the HHDL Library and Learning Center, Du Khor Choeling Shrine Room, Eight Verses for Training the Mind Path

1:30-1:45   Centering Meditation Practice with Drumming

1:45-2:00   Lobsang Nyandak – Ex-President of The Tibet Fund and Ex- Finance Minister of Exile Tibetan Government of Tibet: Significance and Relevance of the Dalai Lama Institution

2:00-3:15   Interfaith Roundtable Discussion on Values (6-8 persons representing different faiths) & Audience Questions

Focus Questions: What do you do to try to understand and practice interfaith relations with people of other faiths? What have you learned about other faiths that then deepened the practice of your own faith?  What made learning about other faiths possible?

3:15-3:30 BREAK

3:30-4:30   Breakout Groups (TBD) and Contemplative Time:  provide attendees with a range of choices both structured smaller discussion groups led by participants.  Participants can propose break-out groups they would be interested in facilitating.  Attendees can also use this time unstructured quiet time, contemplations and impromptu discussions with other attendees

4:30-4:45   Gather back in Peacemakers Hall

September 10, 2023 Day Two:  Practice

9:30-9:45   Meditation Practice led by Tashi Choeden, Rubin Museum

9:45-11:15   Overview of core contemplative practices of different religions

Panel of 5-6 speakers representing different religions (translated into Tibetan)

 Each representative talks about:  What different methods, contemplative and meditation practices, used in your tradition to help cultivate compassion, loving-kindness and forgiveness mindfully and experientially?  Participants are invited to share stories-experience, if comfortable.

11:30-12:00      Answer Written Questions from the Audience

12:00-1:30       Lunch

2:00-3:15   Interfaith Roundtable Discussion on Contemplative Practice (6-8 persons representing different faiths) & Audience Questions
