Description:

Bodhichitta, the altruistic intention to attain enlightenment for the sake of alleviating the suffering of all sentient being, is the essential heart-felt motivation, born of Great Compassion, necessary for achieving Buddhahood.  Cultivating this beautiful motivation requires both training our minds in the wish to achieve this goal, aspiring bodhichitta, as well as directing our actions in ways that are in accord with this goal, practical bodhichitta.  Aspiring bodhichitta is cultivated through meditative practices such as equalizing and exchanging self and other, while practical bodhichitta is cultivated through the practice of the six perfections such as generosity, ethical discipline and patience.  As our practice in the cultivation of bodhichitta develops, our experience of this precious mind deepens and expands.  This evolution in experience is reflected in twenty-two similes associated with each successive level of practice.  These similes provide us with a vision and sense of the qualities we will gain through cultivating bodhichitta at different stages on the path.  During this weekend intensive, Geshe-la will provide teachings on the cultivation of bodhichitta and the qualities that we gain as we progressin our practice.  As always, Geshe-la will provide ample time for students to ask questions.  This is an excellent teaching for students at any level to gain deeper understanding and experience of this essential element of Buddhist practice.

Biography:
 Geshe Jamyang Dakpa was born in the year 1976. At the age of eleven he became monk and started his primary education at the Local Monastery.  He studied in the local primary school to the age of twelve and the age of nineteen Geshe Jamyang Dakpa joined Sera Jhe Mopnastery in Bylakuppe, South India where Geshe la has studied rigorously for sixteen years on the five major treatises of Buddhism and had received 1^st position in all basic monastic education including Tibetan grammar and script, memorization of Buddhist scriptures.  While completing the Buddhist Sutra and Tantric courses such as Pharchin, Uma Dua Ngompa Zoe and Sang-ngag.

In the year 2017 Geshe Jamyang Dakpa received Lharampa degree -equivalent to PhD in 1^st Division.  In 2018 Geshe la received his Master of Trantrayana degree in 1^st division from Gyutoe Trantric University. Dharamsala.

At present he is faculty at Namgyal Monastery – Tantric College in Dharamsala, India and Geshe Jamyang Dakpa will be the main teacher at Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies, Ithaca, NY.
